What to Expect

Blue Ladder Basements

Any major project inside your home can be a stressful experience. Our goal at Blue Ladder Basements is to guide you through the entire process and eliminate/relieve as much stress as possible. Communication and collaboration are two of the key principles you will experience with Blue Ladder Basements.

Here is an outline of the process and what you can expect.

  • Step 1: Consultation & Design

Our ownership team will meet you at your residence, walk the project area for measurements and then sit down with you to get an idea of what your finished dream product is – ideally you will have photos that can be used as a baseline.  During that initial meeting, budgets and timelines and the Blue Ladder contract process will be discussed.  Design renderings (2D/3D) are available through a partnership with a local contractor if requested and contracted.

  • Step 2: Product Selection

Our team will guide you through the product selection process to secure the major design items.  These include flooring, cabinetry, bathroom tile/design, and any other custom features.

  • Step 3: Bidding & Contract

Our team will take all of the data accumulated in steps 1 & 2 and provide you with a formal bid on the total cost to create your dream space within your budget.  Once approved, a contract will be presented to you.  Once signed and the initial deposit is received, your project will be placed on the construction calendar and a start date will be communicated.

  • Step 4: Framing

Generally, framing of all the walls is the first step in the construction process.  Lumber will be delivered and stocked in the basement on day one.  If possible, our team will use a product called “Zip Wall” to enclose the space to the rest of your house to help eliminate dust.  Our framing crew will begin laying out the space and erecting all of the walls, openings, soffits, etc

  • Step 5: Electrical/Plumbing/HVAC

After framing is complete, any plumbing or HVAC modifications will be made according to the design plan.  The electrical layout is a key moment in time during the process.  The team will walk the space with you to discuss lighting locations, confirm TV and other electronic locations, etc.

Change orders to the design/contract after this step becomes challenging and expensive.  We will ask you to be available for walk-throughs and discussions to avoid painful change orders in the future.

  • Step 6: Insulation & Drywall

Any required or requested insulation will be installed at this time.  Once completed, drywall will be stocked and hung.  This process will begin on the ceilings and continue down the walls.  Once the drywall is hung, the finishing crew will tape and mud all the joints and get your space ready for paint.  At this point, you will really begin to see the progress and envision your dream space!

  • Step 7: Finishing

This step is a very busy one.  Walls will be painted, bathrooms will begin getting tile installed, cabinetry and countertops installed, fixtures installed, trim installed, and final flooring installed.

  • Step 8: Initial Walk-Through

Prior to the final clean, we will request a walk-through to thoroughly walk the project and identify any items that need attention or repair.  Those items on the list will be addressed and finalized.

  • Step 9: Cleaning

While our crews will be light cleaning throughout the process, once all the construction is complete, a final, professional clean is completed.

  • Step 10: Final Walk-Through

A final walk-through will be scheduled with you and the owners to thoroughly walk through the project and the “keys” to your dream space will be delivered.
